This project aims to enhance ocean literacy among teachers in coastal Tamil Nadu and Kerala by providing them with comprehensive knowledge about the Indian Ocean's biodiversity, fisheries, and pollution threats. Teachers will collaborate with the teams to co-create marine education content incorporating perspectives from indigenous communities, policymakers, and religious leaders. This project seeks to broaden the understanding of ocean issues beyond coastal areas to include inland activities and their connection to marine environments. By integrating ocean literacy into the education system, the project supports COP26 goals and contributes to the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development, empowering students and communities to take collective action for ocean conservation.
