Team members: Krishna Pentayah, Divyasheel Sukhari, Hicham Kamlichi, Esha Beeharry
Team Sov Lanatir's mangrove reforestation project in Mauritius aims to restore mangrove forests damaged by the 2020 MV Wakashio oil spill. This project addresses biodiversity loss and promotes environmental stewardship through community engagement and education. It integrates hands-on restoration activities, such as propagule collection, nursery establishment, and seedling planting, involving local residents and fisherfolk in conservation efforts. This project educates students and the local community about the ecological importance of mangroves, fostering critical thinking and collaboration to build resilience to the impacts of climate change. By combining scientific research with community involvement, this project creates a replicable model for mangrove restoration and environmental education.
