Mayor Roots EE Visit to Taiwan Eco-Campus School

In April 2025, Taiwan’s Ministry of Environment collaborated with Justin Harris, former U.S. EPA colleague and now with SEMI Global Headquarters, to welcome Mayor Stefan Roots of Chester, Pennsylvania to Taiwan. During his visit, Mayor Roots toured Xiaoli Elementary School, with participation from the HeySong Educational Foundation. He saw the students’ efforts in smart agriculture and ecological education, and expressed a commitment to establishing a sister-school partnership.

International Connection: GEEP APRC Launches Youth Environmental Action Platform

On March 13, 2025, the Asia-Pacific Regional Center of the Global Environmental Education Partnership (GEEP APRC) convened its first advisory meeting, bringing together environmental education experts from seven countries to discuss plans for international internships and workshops. South Korea and Vietnam were the first to offer internship sites, including an upcoming International Youth Summer Camp at Vietnam’s Cat Ba National Park. Participating countries also proposed topics for virtual workshops, such as "Civic Engagement," "Plastic Pollution and Biodiversity," and "Improving Soil, Water, and Air Quality."

This meeting laid a solid foundation for environmental education cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region and showcased GEEP APRC’s commitment to advancing youth sustainability learning.

Taiwan’s Ministry of Environment Mobilizes Green Action for Earth Day

In celebration of Earth Day 2025, Taiwan’s Ministry of Environment launched a series of concrete actions supporting sustainable development. On April 20, the “Green Action for the Earth × Zero-Waste Plant-Based Family Day” event was held at Taipei’s Daan Forest Park. Minister of Environment Dr. Peng Chih-Ming, joined by representatives from 22 county and city governments and civil society groups, collectively pledged to promote green living and encouraged citizens to practice environmental protection in daily life.

Planet: Go Green, Go Clean! cleanup campaign, collecting nearly 100,000 kilograms of trash and 20,000 kilograms of recyclables — a powerful display of Taiwan's environmental commitment.

The event also promoted a “Zero-Waste Plant-Based Lifestyle,” emphasizing the dual benefits of plant-based diets for health and the environment. Minister Peng shared his personal experience of nine years on a plant-based diet, inspiring the public to start protecting the planet from their dining tables.
