Africa, like the rest of the world, is facing unprecedented environmental and social problems that necessitate collaborative effort from committed environmentalists, educators, and humanity at large.
In 2021, the idea of establishing GEEP Africa Hub was conceived by a few African environmental practitioners. It was presented at the GEEP meeting during the COP26 meeting. In 2022, the first Africa-based workshop was held in Johannesburg with representatives from the five African regions. At this gathering, the concept of a GEEP Regional Center in Africa was presented and accepted with suggestions to engage more stakeholders on the continent including people, governments, and networks.
GEEP Africa serves as a strong multi-layered platform to enable interaction and sharing of knowledge and experiences related to environmental education (EE) and education for sustainable development (ESD) among environmentalists, EE/ESD practitioners, teachers, researchers, academia, policymakers, and communities.
