Overview
EE in Austria is multi-faceted, consisting of comprehensive EE integration into K - 12 schools, and the existence of several organizations working to promote and support EE throughout the country.
Policy & Practice
Environmental education has been required in Austrian schools since 1979, and works to link EE to various topics in each grade level with an eye towards developing key EE competencies. More information can be found here. There are also several universities and institutions that offer EE as a degree program, although there is no official certification program offered.
Leadership
For more than 30 years, the FORUM Environmental Education has been working in environmental education and education for sustainable development. FORUM works in both the formal and nonformal education sector, and also implements some programs that work with young people and children directly.
